Kosovo as private property
Kosovo
Albanians celebrated Feb. 17th their first year of sc. Independence.
Among normal praising statements and congratulations there was also
various definitions of the status of this Serbia's separatist
province. Newest for me was one of which the former PM Ramush
Haradinaj used. He addressed many criticisms toward the Government - a
quote (Koha Ditore, Zëri, Epoka e Re):
We are witnesses of the transformation of the state into the private property of the leadership that wants to monopolize everything good that we inherited, our entire history and future, and which has transformed Government into organized corruption.
Rude
words but given the background also understandable. Today's PM Thaci
and Haradinaj are representing two leading and competing tribes or
clans of organized crime in Kosovo. Both have been accused also e.g.
about war crimes, Haradinaj even was in Haague but released when
witnesses surprisingly were murdered or threaded to keep their mouth
shut.
State as private property is quite good description about how matters stand. I have earlier described circumstances in Kosovo with “Quadruple Helix Model” where government, underworld, Wahhabbi schools and international terrorism have win-win symbiosis. First I was thinking that Kosovo is sliding to be a "failed state" now I am tending to the opinion that a "captured state" is better definition - maybe Kosovo's ex-PM is concluding the same.
Other definitions were also heard during "celebrations - here few of them:
- One Kosovo Albanian political leader, Mr. Demaci, said that his dream for independence was different and he kept stutus of Kosovo as "half independent" (Epoka e Re and Kosova Sot)
- Serbian PM Mirko Cvetkovic described Kosovo as "a virtual state on the Serbian territory" (RTS)
- The Assembly of (Serbian) Municipalities of in Kosovo adopted a declaration and "dismisses as non-existent and legally invalid any act and activity declaring the independence of the quasi-state of Kosovo and forming the institution thereof". (RTS)
From
the other side one could note that celebrations went without incidents so as positive point
one could conclude that conflict has rised on the level of words which
is real progress compared region's past.

this must be a Serbian site,..
@vega
no, it´s an independend blog from Ari Rusila, a respected analyst with a sharp mind.
Of course, Serbia is putting all it's efforts to undermine the state of Kosovo in all the ways it could, and one is putting a lot of money on propaganda and buying some "independent" western journalists (as it did during the time Serbian forces were ethnic cleansing Kosovo, when the same "indepent journalists" were writting how Albanians people were willingly leaving Kosovo because of NATO bombing, and the killed civilians were KLA members).
Having Russia as a neighboor, Finish people understand and are behind the independent state of Kosovo.
One can not but wonder why would a journalist write such a piece of information. It is a complete lie. If I were a Kosovar I would definitely feel very insulted. I have visited Kosovo twice after its declaration of independence and I am spending some time here now and can just let the world know that things have changed positively in every aspect since a year ago. The democratic nations that have been supporting the newest nation in the world should be really proud for being part of something very human and truly democratic.
it is really sad in one way and really funny in the ather way what serbia is tring to do.....they realy sime to bealiev Rusa is helping them with Kosovo.... they're sucking their blood and thenen they will say oh sorry or will not say onything and recognice The Republik Of Kosovo!
serbia should think 1c for ever and accept thet they are LOSERS....as thay did with Sloveia then Croatia then Bosnia.H and now with KOSOVO!!
they're now sucking they fingers but is to late!!!!!
Serbia will Recognice The Republik of Kosovo very soon as all the countrys are doing so.
Happy Independence to all the people in Kosovo.
I can not believe i just wasted 3 min reading this, this is only misleading information as a matter of fact it has no value what's so ever, first the author needs to identify him/her self second give proven facts no just gossip. And for you information Ramush Haradinaj was proven Not guilty, not because the witness were disappearing but because there was nothing on him, he fought for his country like many people around the world.
I always laugh when I see Rusila's photo with the pipe.
You can't possibly take seriously what he writes.
It is interesting because no one is taking seriously what serbs say about kosovo...they all konw that is just somethink they overestimate!!!
Kosovo is It is moving very fast with everything, so that is a great news....
Having read comments above I'm again happy for providing so much enjoy with my post. Some comments were critical but unfortunately mainly against me and not the topic. This of course tells a bit about writers but makes hard to develop any debate since the counter arguments are missing.
About Kosovo's development I was closely observing when international community launched its "standards before status" initiative. It took only a couple of years to see that progress with these was modest at its best and so the slogan was transformed to "standards and status". When again development of standards showed to be difficult the final outcome - "status before standards" was opposite of the original meaning.
Giving recognition to some quasi-independence of this province represents desperate wish of western powers to find some exit strategy from Kosovo. With accumulating amount of progress reports the international community created a virtual reality and also some local ones are believing that this reality and its outcome - virtual state - is something else than illusion.
This artical is what it should be, clear, honest, short full of fackts. Who don't like(like some that posted comments already) can live it. The truth is that Kosovo is illigal and it's quasi-independance is nothing but criminal act. Then when did Kosovar Albenian being known to respect the low of Yugoslavia/Serbia or any other country that they happend to live? Kosovo is SERBIA.
Guys its obvious Mr Rusila is a one-sided or a paid lobbyist acting on behalf of Serbia.
Congrats on the first anniversary Kosovo. keep it up.
what a dope. 80 tons of heroin supposedly passes through Kosovo a year and 'Albanians are the chief perpetrators' ? Estimate how much Europe consumes first and see how dumb your chief argument is. Also, how do drugs come to Kosova and how do they get out of it, ever wondered? Kosova is landlocked as you should know and Albania has banned private boats.
The rest is even funnier. How do you draw your conclusion based on what the (Kosova) opposition and Serbs say? Laaaaaaaaaame. Very lame.
I hope you are at least getting paid well by the Serbian government.
You are wrong Mendo. Mr. Rusila is a loser at what he likes to think he does. You will not find his incoherent and deeply biased mumblings anywhere else but this cafebordel web site.
And he is a cockroach. As we all know, the cockroaches live in filth. Because he is a cockroach with a human brain (very twisted but a human brain nevertheless) he desperately tries to create filth for the simple reason of existence.
Because he is so useless at what he likes to think he does, he craves for attention. Desperation is the reason the Serbs sponsors someone of his caliber. The attention he gets from you and me is something that his mumbling certainly does not deserve. Just ignore the dirty creature.
Having lived and worked in Kosovo for several years, and having lived through the Declaration of Independence and the celebration of the first anniversary, and still currently there, I welcome the article above. It provides an interesting starting point for a more detailed and more comprehensive discussion surrounding what is a very complex and very important question: the viability of Kosovo as a state, and its 'real' status at present. This discussion needs to be held, and it will not help Kosovo, or Kosovars, to ignore or suppress it.
Supporters of independence have to be careful not to fall into the trap of failing to engage in ongoing self-analysis. Kosovars have now achieved, what was for many years, only a distant dream......independence. But the process of building a state, takes years, and takes efforts from all - politicians, private sector, civil society and citizens alike.
Kosovars should not be led blindly by their politicians, they should question their actions, investigate their personal interests, and demand respect for transparency and accountability.
Bravo, for starting the dialogue!
Dear Ari,
I thought you were analyst...but apparently you write what you take from others reports, and you should be neutral when you write on internet, . Also being one sided (in this case serb side) is not hard to guess as you have worked in leposavic and you have been infected...I have seen lot of people like you.
A suggestion: If you really want to have a successful blog stop being one sided no matter if you are writing about Kosova, serbia, spain etc, you should be proffesional and start analysing things do not just write what you hear serbs saying to you, cause I also understand some of them are frustrated about the fact they have lost Kosova but...hey this is the truth...like it or not.
come on guys, if something is ugly, does not necessarily means it's a lie.
To realise how different to points of view can be, check out that video. (a small debate among MEPs for kosovo):
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_polit...
You might not agree with Ari, but saying he is "paid lobbyist acting on behalf of Serbia"? Come on...
Kosovo is a mess, and this is always the result of stupid wars.
I just hope EULEX to succeed for the shake the people there, but i doubt.
Ari,
I am sure you have seen money laundry, traffiking etc. But that happens in a place emerging from conflict. The problem in Kosovo is the image of it.
1. According to Council of Europe most sex workers in the Balkans nowdays work voluntarily;
2. The murder rate is about the same as in Sweden;
3. Northern Ireland has more violent crime than Kosovo;
4. With 18 firearms per 100 inhabitants compared to 69 in Finland, one wonders why Kosovo and not Finland is described as a gunner's paradise???
I have nothing against neither you or your blog. As long as it is on the internet anybody can access it, read it and debate if they wish, or they can simply leave it and search for other sites.
My point is that we have to be realistic and not one-sided.
As for the Nikk's comment I can say that I don't care whether it's ugly or not as long as it is the truth, cause there is not a single perfect person in this world not even a country or a whole nation. Nobody is perfect.
But the way Ari writes in general about Kosovo is not realistic!
@15 (Nora) I don't know if everything Ari describes is realistic or not, I'm not living there. But I have a hunch the situation there is cannot compare with Sweden, Finland or Northern Ireland.
Yeah It's not perfect, but actually Kosovo is much below the average Nora, just admit that.
Nobody said it's people's fault, It's the direct consequence of war etc etc. But at the end of the day, the truth is that Kosovo has a long way to go to be considered a jurisdictional state. Hence the "private property" as Ari calls it.
As I said, I hope EULEX to succeed. Given the situation there, seems like the only way to move forward.
Nora wrote: With 18 firearms per 100 inhabitants compared to 69 in Finland, one wonders why Kosovo and not Finland is described as a gunner's paradise???
You must be joking, right? maybe 18 firearms with licence, but how many without licence? 500 000 estimated AK-47 assault rifles (mainly Chinese) in hands of Kosovo Albanians illegally without licence. How can you you get licence for automatic assault rifle: no how. Most of the weapons in Finland are hunting rifles.
It is unprecedented that Ayatollah Montazeri--who was Ayatollah Khomeini's former heir apparent, a genuine grand ayatollah, not someone who had mid-ranking credentials and was made an ayatollah overnight like Khamenei--has openly challenged both this election and Khamenei's reign.
